I open it every day, became a routine for me, it's not the best news, but it's good. Edit: Changed to 1 star because it has been repeatedly loading every 30 seconds or so, so it goes all the way back to the top of the feed, app also closes sometimes. This didn't used to happen. Please fix the app!
If you like celebrity trash news, this app is for you. Otherwise, it not a serious news outlet. I tried excluding subjects, items, and especially celebrity news only to be bombarded with more. You never seem to get an uninterrupted article without reading so far through only to be presented with, "continue reading" and have select it twice to complete an article. I have tried to see the positive with it, but I think it's close to being uninstalled.
They keep making this app worse and worse. All i want is a list of headlines that updates frequently. But they keep redesigning it to put less and less information,on the page. First they changed it from just headlines and short description,,to these ugly, blocks where you can, only see 3 on the page at once. Now they changed it and you can only see one article on a page at once! This is the last straw. I am ACTUALLY switching to a different app.
I disabled the Google newsstand app long ago after an update turned it from a serviceable source of news to a complicated, disorganized mess. That's when I discovered the wonderful google news and weather app. Now that news and weather has officially been "turned off" I'm back to what can only be called an ugly, frustrating, load of garbage. Oversized windows, distracting animations, and an alarming lack of a simple sort option for categories. I don't know what Google was thinking but this is not progress.
A pretty good aggregator of news. Some of the default sources are behind paywalls, but can be filtered out easily enough. The largest issue I have with it is that you can't adjust the font size. Some of us older folks need that option. I have to open each article in a browser to read them. (I know about system font size, and already have set.) Every other app has a size adjustment, but the News team is too lazy to make one.
Decent news app that does a good job of showing the news you want to see if you take the time to tailor things. I like that I can hide sources/topics and I like the "full coverage" button. Wish I could select the topics of interest that appear in the headlines section.
Greatest app to keep anyone and everyone updated with local and global news of all sorts. You can customize it to your liking and save your favourite stories. It recommends stories closely related to your interests, while making it very simple to tune wanted and unwanted content. On a daily basis, it keeps me informed with my favorite topics. Highly recommend.
I guess that news is a 24-7 job, and thanks to Google News collecting the best, and what I'm really interested - tailored to what I look at on the web, and my app preferences - I'm started to see how AI is learning from my habits, that's the good side of tracking on the internet - other than that, Google News is a well-designed, user friendly app, what you expect from Google, LLC. Thanks!!!
Revised review! Looks like that last update fixed the problems I outlined below. Thank you! ----previous review: I really don't like the new checker board format. The headlines are cut off. There are blank squares throughout the list of content. Also found that the "more" or "less" options are frequently missing or they refer to the period article I read and don't allow me to accurately find time my interests.
The latest update now allows actually interacting with the webpage it shows, for copying text or opening links in a new tab or even in another browser. I can't swear the fixing update wasn't just to the WebView component but either way it went from hatred to oh this is nice. I still want it to allow blocking stories by keyword or even that hot new embedding ai stuff but I'll gladly take this quality of life improvement
